While attending the speaking test, you will have a conversation with a certified examiner. It will be an interactive session, and it is close to a real-life situation. Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking test lasts between 2 to 3 minutes, including 1 minute preparation time. The examiner will provide you with a task card, and you'll have to speak about the subject without a break for 1 to 2 minutes.

  • Avoid giving short replies as much as possible. Avoid quick answers like yes or no to closed questions. Always give examples to help you explain a statement. Use your 1 minute preparation time sensibly and make notes of the points you would like to make.

  • Listen to the question carefully, and the question itself will help you with the structure of your talk. The introduction can combine the item itself and maybe a brief description.

  • The main body of your talk should describe the situation, and it should be evident to the examiner. Then, you can end with an explanation of why the object is so important.

  • Try to avoid giving a typical introduction. It is always better to practise the answer as often as possible. For this, time yourself and ask a friend for feedback.
